Pyrex Hoarding is acceptable!

anniescupboards 7 1:29 PM
I found another suitcase. This one is really used looking. I LOVE IT! I love used and worn items. Not so much with holes and rips or bad stains with smells. Eww no. But used it perfect. This one still has a vintage travel tag on it. This suitcase has been to Sweden! I am thinking of maybe taking all my craft show stickers I attend and putting them all over this suitcase. Then I think I making it over and selling it. I found a train case and of course it was locked shut. It was blue too. And perfect. But I am not going to buy a suitcase I can't open. Can you find the keys anywhere? Are they universal? I do have luggage keys that fit and open one of my cases. Maybe I should try the keys on other suitcases I have? Maybe if I just bring them with me to the thrift store I could find out. Why do they sell locked suitcases? I left a brown and a black behind too cause they were locked. Ohhhhhh Phooey!
So its been a while since I found any Pyrex. I do look all the time. Today I would say I hit the jackpot. I found a few pieces. This neon yellowish green is a favorite of mine. I only had one piece a long oblong dish. Now I have 2 bowls. Different yet the same color. So smiling while I type this. I found another green bowl. This green is part of this stacking set. Which I already own except the blue or is it red dish? I forgot which one I needed. I think its the blue. I will have to look.
I found some small records. I have been looking for them. I have a really fun craft project to do/try with them. I also found 2 large records. I collect musicals and vintage movie soundtracks on vinyl records. To be honest I have no record player and I don't listen to them. I want to. I just don't have any place to store a record player yet. Soon I will. There are a few record players at several of my thrift stores and I shall be bringing one home very soon.
I found 2 large yellow Pyrex bowls. Again they are part of the stacking set. I found 2 at the same store. How awesome is this? I paid less than 5 bucks for them each. I have this yellow bowl already. But that does not mean I won't buy anymore. Pyrex hoarding is totally acceptable in my eyes. If I want to de-stash I know I will find some Pyrex lovers too. But she who has the most Pyrex. Wins?? Right? haha! I may be selling some Pyrex at Stitch Rock. I am not sure. I have been informed of another indie show that is coming in February 2011. I have no real info yet to give you. I just heard talk and lots of it. So I know its coming just not sure when. There is talk of it being a whole mess of vintage and a whole mess of indie that will be for sale. I am so excited. My 2 favorite things. I can de-stash then if I feel I have to much. Ok I will try. HA!
I found this pillow case. I love it. I have a fitted sheet like this. But its got paint marks on some of it and a hole here and there. I am thinking of cutting it up and making another pillowcase so I have a set.
Pacman fitted sheet. I think this is a full size. I was going to use this but instead I am going to list it in Etsy. I also thought of listing that Mario vintage sheet I found too. I want to cut it up and use it. However I don't know what to make from it. I don't know if I want to cut it up. Its so new looking for vintage. Crafting drama!!

Retro Tape Player

At first I started playing on it and recording my voice and singing into it. Horriable. haha. Dont you hate the way your voice sounds when you play it back? eek. I did. Now I don't care as much. Before there was VHS players or even Beta players (which was a form of a video tape just smaller and never got popular) You would have really no chance of recording your favorite show or song. When Michael Jackson performed or Madonna on a tv show I quickly ran and grabbed my tape recorder and put it to use. Sure you got lots of air noises from the recording but you could listen to it over and over again. I used to do the same thing with the radio. You just hope no one walks in and started talking or laughing or what not. Dog Barking was in a bunch of mine. When I was younger I would listen to Dr. Demto on the radio and fall asleep. As I would fall asleep I would hit record so I could listen the next night. It was always on so late and I had to get up for school the next day. I also used to record messages to my older sister Lani. She lives in California with my dad. So I would send her voice message and mail it to her and she would listen to them on her tape recorder and send me back voice tapes too. What used to be my life line in the 80's is now just a memory. When I see them now. I always think of those days. I loved that recorder.

Fabric phone or camera cases made

anniescupboards 4 1:16 PM
I have been busy all morning making these little bags for your cell phone or camera.
I made these from fabric scraps. I try to use up all of my fabrics. I have a big box full of fabric scraps. I throw all my scraps in that box if its too small to store on my fabric shelf, yet to big throw away. Sometimes I get too many scraps and have to donate them to my quilting friends. They love it. What do you do with your fabric scraps? We have that creative reuse center now I can just donate to them but my friends don't have this around them so don't panic friends. I will still send you my scraps. These are coming with me to Stitch Rock. I have a few favorites in here.

Retro bunny made with Mohawk

anniescupboards 2 3:14 PM
Same pattern. Different look. The furry stuff makes the face look round. I made this one with just a strip of fur on top and it looks like a Mohawk. I love it. The other one kinda does look skunk-ish. But they have long tails and short ears. I need other colors besides white and black. I have blue. So I made a blue bunny. I have other fur, I just can't find it. I know I have red and pink. I know it. I just can not remember where I put it. I have more white faux fur but that is for my Christmas tree skirt. The cats ruin every skirt I put under the tree. No amount of vacuuming and using that sticky tape was keeping that fur off the skirt. Of course they have to lay in there. 2 of them. They take turns and then one pounces on the other one when one walks by. Sometimes falling asleep waiting.

Stuffed Bunny from Vintage Pattern

anniescupboards 4 10:23 AM
I used a vintage pattern to make this bunny. The pattern wanted me to use felt but I wanted to use furry fun stuff. So I did. I was not sure how it would turn out, if I would like to work with furry stuff and was it going to fun and not send me on the floor kicking and screaming like knit fabric does to me. I am so pleased everything came out perfect. No crying on my end and no fighting with any fabric. The furry stuff is awesome to sew with. I have used it before but not to make an actual toy for it. I always used it for embellishment. Its just thicker to move around. The fur is very forgiving on your seams. You can't see them. I call that PERFECT!
Bunny is coming to Stitch Rock with me in hopes to find a mommy to snuggle with.
Unless I fall in love. Which is happening as I type this.
I just love the furry goodness!!

Vintage Dresses found Thrifted

anniescupboards 2 3:37 PM
I found a really nice fitting 100% cotton full length slip. Usually you find the slinky feeling ones. I do like those too. But I prefer the cotton in this humid hot weather. This is one of those items I was hoping to find and been looking for a long time. Thrift store price $4.00.
I have a new favorite dress. I thought once I would try it on I would hate it. I didn't! I loved it. I thought once I saw it on I would rip off those three bows on the chest. Once I saw it on I didn't mind them anymore. I really love the style and fit of this dress. The color is just an amazing plus. I noticed after I put it on there is a zipper going on the the side of the dress. Extra bonus loves for not having to actually undo the zipper to get in and out of this dress! And my new thrifted slip works perfectly under it too. Thrifted dress $7.00.
I know your gonna say like I need another. But come on it was $4.00 bucks. This vintage yellow carry on suitcase is just perfect for my notebook. The length of the strap is also perfect. I need to clean it. Its lime green on the inside. I am not kidding. I thought of sewing a star or bird or something on it to make it more fun. I am not sure what to do. Should I even keep it or make it over and sell? But its yellow. YELLOW! I said the same thing when I found the red one. That is still sitting there saying HEY what about me. Where is all that red love?

I found this yellow dress ($6.00) and belt ($2.00). I love love the dress. Its a little big on me. I don't care. I love it. There is a stain on the top part over to the right. But you cant see it unless I stand there and pose like I am doing so in this photo. (ha) I don't think I will actually walk around like that so if the stain does not come out in the wash then maybe I will sew something there to cover it. Maybe not. You really have to be looking to see it. The belt is just too much. I love it. I love all the flashy goodness it shines. I would even wear it with this dress.

Ruffle Vintage Sheet Aprons

anniescupboards 2 6:29 PM
I am making some aprons again for Stitch Rock 2010! Since I am all about ruffles lately, I thought why not here too. I can't choose which one I like the best. They are really fun to wear. I had some left over sheet with the trim. (the white one) It's actually the top part of a bed sheet. I got that at the thrift store last year and used all the main plain parts. I had enough left over to make two aprons. Now I have to start cutting a new old thrifted sheet to make more. I think a pink one is needed. Maybe a mix of all the left over strips that I am getting too. I don't want to waste any of these wonderful thrifted sheets. Seriously I am just loving these aprons!

3 Woodsy Peg Doll Houses for Etsy

anniescupboards 1 12:09 PM
Well I have certainly been on the doll house kick lately huh? I can't stop myself. They are too much fun to make and design and play with. I am listing these 3 in my Etsy Shop. I am then not going to make any more to list in my shop until after I finish up my craft show prep work. I have that indie craft show coming and I am going to offer a few of these homes and smaller ones like the cases I made for the last show. The pack n play homes? Click here to see a photo of them. I sold them at my show and put the left overs on Etsy after the show. I will be doing the same thing this year. Honestly I hope I sell out at the show. But you know realistically I know not everyone who is shopping is going to bust into song and dance over my creations. haha I do. That is what counts. On a side note. I had to have make the comment section of my blog a bit different. I keep having that annoying bot paying my blog a visit so I am going to monitor my comments and post them after reading. How utterly annoying and sad that I have to do this. I love coming and reading little messages you have left me. I hate that I have to do this. But for the time being. It will be.

Vintage Wednesday is Half Off!

anniescupboards Reply 2:15 PM
Some of my local thrifty stores have half off day on Wednesdays. Not all of them do. And not everything is half off usually a certain color tag or clothing only or housewares only. I paid full price for this set of red pillowcases. Its so vintagy yummy. I love them so much. I never have seen a red pair of vintage pillowcases. Never! This is my first time seeing/finding them locally. They are in perfect condition. I more than love. I adore.
I found this set of vintage sheets. I have this in a king size fitted only. I am going to put it on my bed today. I forgot I had this sheet. I found this set and it reminded me of it. I should have taken the pillowcase and kept it. Or maybe take the flat sheet and make myself 2 pillowcases. I can't. Its a perfect set that should be shown on someones bed. Its so bright. So pretty. No stain or holes. Like I don't even think this was used. I mean of course it was. Plus its very soft. You know that crisp feeling? This set feels like it. Again wishing I had a twin size bed. I tried talking hubby into it. He just laughed at me.
I found 2 vintage large needle punched piggys and a cross stitch piggy, completed. I love them. The needle punch is seriously a bunch of work there. I needle punch I know. My gosh. I have to make these into something. I am not sure yet. Something worthy of all the persons work. My gosh. I paid 25 cents each for them. I totally owe it to the person who made these to make it awesome and used since it never was.

Reuse Center In Fort Lauderdale

anniescupboards 1 11:25 AM
I am so super excited about a local place we have that is fairly new. It's a reuse center. Donations can be made anytime and they have a thrift store next door so if you have anything you are sick of drop it off over there. And if your recycling and don't want to see items in the landfill, clean them/scrub good and send them over. Not only do people like you and I donate to them. Companies do too. I know the local Fort Lauderdale Whole Food Store is always donating. I am sure you have heard me talk about them? Its called Trash 2 treasure Creative Reuse Center. take a peek at their site and get to know them. They have a small video that will give you more of a peek than my photos. I have been here 3 times already. One time to check them out when I went to the Swap-o-Rama. Then I took hubby one time and then I went myself. I just love it. I am trying to gather supplies for my craft show that is coming in Oct. 2010 and I am trying to limit the amount of money I spend on crafting supplies. The reuse center is perfect for this. You can go in there and just look around get inspired by pure junk. Ok junk to other people, maybe. Treasure to those who craft. Crafters like me love to create and repurpose its use. If your local and your drinking wine save all your corks. Bottle drinkers save all your caps. Metal and plastic. They take them all. Jars that your food came in. ALL of them even with the lids. Plastic cups from your pudding, yogurt, applesauce! Yes they take them. I went looking for baby jars and I found a whole bunch of different ones/sizes. I was so happy. My friend is no longer buying baby food cause he baby is no longer a baby and now a toddler and I was wondering last year where I was going to get my baby jars from. Wonder no more after learning about this place.
This is the fabric area. I went through so many boxes and found all kinda of good scraps worthy of taking home. Seeing how I am a doll maker as well as a seamstress as well as a crafty gal. I am able to get all kinds of uses for this stuff. There is all kinds of fabric in there. Patterns, textures you name it. Someone donated some scraps. Those are my 2 reusable bags on the bottom. I only filled up one bag. But it was heavy and full of jars and spools and fabric. I found some wood frames. You can see the site for more info on how much it cost to shop in there. I use the daily rate. Its 10 bucks for 20 lbs and 1.00 a lb after that. This is all a donation. It is what keeps them open. So I am totally happy with the cost and the donating part. You cant buy this kinda good stuff locally for that much. Try shopping in your local fabric store for scraps. Go ahead. I make barbie doll clothing, baby doll clothing and rag doll clothing. I am seriously coming back for more. I promised myself only get what you need now. Cause if I were to shop more I would have had 40 lbs of stuff and not 25 like I came home with. My first visit I only had 4.5 lbs. I laugh at that now. I was more into over load of ideas when I got in there. I must tell you its a warehouse. There is no air conditioning. They do have the doors open and there are fans in there and they offer you all the ice cold water, all you can drink. I bring mine so I don't have to panic run to the front for some. Back door by the fabric area, best spot ever for cross breeze. So if your sweating it up head over there. (if your standing in the view of my photo above, your standing in the right spot) I made a list before I went of items I wanted to make. Or should I say repurpose. I found all of those items. I also found a few extra.
Someone donated a paint caddy. It leans a little to the left but I don't care. I love and need it. After bringing this home I really notice I have no place to keep it in my crafting corner. So i am currently going to use it as a craft show display and hang all my necklaces on it. When I am painting I need to see all my colors to color match. What goes with this and that. I currently keep my paints in a cabinet. Which is perfect for me cause they are out of the way and I am keeping the color safe from any lights. When I am painting I am no where near this cabinet. So this will serve as a take along caddy to where I do paint. And who wants to stare at my paints laying all over the place. So when I am done for the day, I can take them and put them aside. When I get my sewing area room I will just fill this with paints and make a cozy little cover for it. Maybe add a few pockets and put the painting supplies in there too.
Look at all this dept. store tissue paper that someone donated. I just ran out of tissue paper. That stuff is expensive!

Craft Show Prepping

anniescupboards 1 11:16 AM
I have been making stuff already for my craft show. I just love the busy fingers during this time of the year. I am getting ready for Stitch Rock in Delray 2010 Indie Craft Show! I am making woodsy people keeper jars. I also am making a few woodsy people doll necklaces and a few animals will be made. The bow is so tiny. I have to make a few more. Fingers don't fail me now.

Hubby asked if I was making lolli pops.

3 Girly Woodsy Peg doll houses

anniescupboards 1 5:15 PM
So can I tell you how many emails I had gotten about wanting pink houses for the woodsy people on Etsy? There was. Many of them. I was like eekkk. I had made 2 of them but they sold before they could even hit Etsy's door step. So...I went and made 3 really girly homes. They are on their way to my Etsy shop. I really adore the color and fabrics I have chosen. I must say the purple is my passion at the moment. I am really digging the pops of its purply goodness. I wanted to play with yellow. I did already last time. It is still screaming come play with me. The purple was my choice. I almost made it yellow and pink. Maybe that will be the next color combo? Each house comes with a pet. The left is a pink hamster. The middle is a kitty cat. The right is a panda. Ok I am gushing at these for a bit. Hard.

Cyndi!
Your number 19. I picked your number. Ok I didnt the number generator thingy did.
Congrats! Your the winner of my Strawberry Shortcake case.
I am sorry I did not make it here last night. I was sort of passed out on the bedroom floor. Actually I was. I have been having tummy pains all day and its been so hot. I was keeping myself hydrated. Or so I thought. I been in the house all day but its hot down here in South Florida even in your house with your a/c running. We live in a small house and it takes nothing for it to heat up. It was 94 in the house. It been hot all weekend. My body can only take so much and out I went. Thankfully I did not hurt myself and hubby found me and took care of me. My a/c isnt the greatest. Ugh. Can't wait to move.
Congrats Cyndi!! WooHoo! Your the winner of my case.
Thank you to everyone who played!
